History: Albedo was the 667th URTV unit to be created, and was an accident that occurred when unit 666 –Rubedo–split into conjoined twins. Due to the volatile nature of the variant URTVs genetics that caused the development of unique powers, Albedo mutated slightly during the split and was ‘born’ an albino. Though he was split from his twin, they could feel each others’ heartbeats and were much more closely connected than the other units. Albedo rarely left his twin’s side, and was highly defensive of him. This caused trouble at one point, when he attacked a standard URTV for insulting Rubedo and beat him nearly to death, though he didn’t realize exactly what he had nearly done because he believed that his ability to regenerate any and all wounds instantly was a standard ability for the URTVs. When his brothers Rubedo and Nigredo confronted him, he displayed this ability by shooting off his own head and regenerating it. Rubedo angrily told him the truth and Albedo was terrified, now faced with the prospect of eventually watching his siblings die while he could not.
His increased protectiveness of Rubedo caused problems after that, as Rubedo developed a crush on a young girl and began to spend more time with her, leaving less time for him to spend with Albedo. Though he was highly jealous of her, he restrained himself from injuring her for his brothers’ sake. However, an Encephalon dive–the only way to truly communicate with the girl due to her inability to speak–went wrong when U-DO, the force the URTVs had been created to destroy, entered the Encephalon and attacked the three, as well as the standard units there, infecting the standard units and turning them into monsters. Nigredo, who did not react to U-DO, dispersed several of the masses of U-DO, but Albedo was left exposed. U-DO attempted to infect him, but the same girl Rubedo had a crush on defended him and was killed by U-DO. While Albedo was happy that his rival for Rubedo’s attention was gone, he felt guilty because of how negatively her death affected his twin.
Things soon got much worse, however, when the URTVs faced U-DO for real. Seeing that what they were doing would lead to the destruction of the planet, Rubedo cut the link between the assembled URTVs, allowing U-DO to attack them. Most of the standard URTVs were infected and turned into monsters, but when Albedo was infected, he reacted differently from the standard units, likely because the variants were built slightly differently. Instead of being warped physically and completely losing his sapience, he linked with U-DO temporarily and was driven insane. Soon after, he began sneaking out at night to practice digging graves for his brothers so he wouldn’t cry when they were really buried and wondering if connecting with U-DO again would cause Rubedo to kill him.
Not long after that, a mysterious song inaudible to ordinary humans drove every Realian–artificial humans created for specific purposes–on the planet to go insane and also drove the remaining standard URTVs to lose their minds and begin attacking everyone. During the chaos, Nigredo–in truth created to keep the other URTVs, especially Rubedo, from going out of control by killing them if necessary–nearly killed Albedo before he and Rubedo were rescued, leaving Albedo alone. Albedo was rescued by a member of an organization known as Ormus and grew up under their care, though he was hardly grateful.
Fifteen years later, Albedo was sent by Ormus to recover a Realian by the name of MOMO who had been their prisoner but was rescued by a cyborg. He gladly summoned the Song of Nephilim, the same ship that had caused the Realians and URTVs to go berserk fifteen years ago, and used it to summon thousands of Gnosis–bitter souls that had rejected the world and become monsters–to attack the Kukai Foundation, where the Realian was taking refuge. This foundation also happened to be run by Nigredo and Rubedo under the aliases of Gaignun Kukai and Gaignun Kukai Jr respectively. When he abducted MOMO, he used his powers to terrify her into submission and before catching a glimpse of Jr in her mind. He instantly recognized his twin and began laughing.
When Jr reached the part of the Song where Albedo was keeping MOMO, Albedo taunted his twin by asking him if he’d told his friends he was a monster yet and forcing him to reveal his true nature as a weapon in front of all of his friends as well as tormenting MOMO while retrieving the data he and Ormus were after from inside of her. Once he got what he could given the circumstances, he entered his E.S. Simeon and fought Jr and his friends. Jr defeated the mecha but Albedo escaped due to the intervention of another agent of the true leader of Ormus. He retreated to an even more powerful ship that he had summoned with the knowledge in the data he had retrieved from MOMO and threatened to use it to destroy the capital of a major planet. Jr and company defeated him again, but still failed to permanently stop him.
Albedo returned on the planet and intruded on an Encephalon dive performed by Jr and his friends to get to the data before him and forced Jr to watch the worst parts of his past with his friends before entering the dive personally and adding a physical element to his torture of his brother, forcing his hand through his abdomen and out the other side with him in a choke hold. He forced Jr to use his powers to free himself and the two fight once again. Albedo escaped that time as well, with the rest of the data, and used it to enter another plane of existence.
On his return, Albedo showed his disloyalty to Ormus by attempting to seize the item they had been after from their Patriarch and was vaporized by one of Ormus’ weapons. As his body dissolved, he told Jr to be sure to inhale the particles that composed him and laughs. Though his body was destroyed, however, he was not dead. His powers managed to keep his consciousness alive despite his physical destruction. This made it easy for the true power behind Ormus to return him to physical life after Jr and company defeated the Patriarch. With the Patriarch out of the way, Albedo turned the entire section of space into a space-time anomaly.
Jr entered the anomaly to face his brother once and for all and Albedo subjected him to emotional torment in an attempt to force him into his anti-U-DO mode. He finally succeeded in pushing his brother off the edge and they fight one final time. Jr won the fight yet again, this time killing Albedo. As Albedo died, he seems to regain his sanity at long last and warned Jr to “Beware Nigredo’s shadow” before he died and it is strongly implied that he went to Heaven. His rest was short lived, however, as the true force behind Ormus revived him as a being known as a Testament.
He returns a year later and appeared very briefly to tell one of his allies to retreat. Jr recognized his voice and called for him to come back, but Albedo ignored him and left. He came back, however, after his ‘father’, Dmitri Yuriev, possessed Gaignun and tried to use his powers to ascend to godhood. Albedo joined Jr in stopping him and they form a mind-link to suppress the waves of U-DO Dmitri was channeling, but before they can finish things, Albedo was drawn into Memento Eden.
